Good kickboxers never start cold. A proper warm-up and cool-down are essential for preventing injuries, improving your performance, and recovering faster. In this blog, you’ll find simple, effective routines you can start using right away—whether you’re training at Spallys or working out at home.
Warm-up: Get Moving & Prepare
A good warm-up lasts about 10–15 minutes and prepares your body and mind for explosive action.
Objective:
- Raising Body Temperature
- Activating Joints
- Waking Up Your Muscles
- Building Mental Focus
Step-by-step warm-up routine:
- Jumping Rope – 2 minutes
Get your heart rate up and engage your lower body.

Light and technical. Focus on footwork and breathing.
Cooling Down: Recovery & Relaxation
After an intense kickboxing workout, you’ll want to let your heart rate gradually come down and help your muscles recover. A cool-down takes 5–10 minutes.
Objective:
- Reducing Muscle Tension
- Disposing of Waste
- Reducing Muscle Soreness
- Restoring Mental Peace
Step-by-step cool-down routine:
- Walk slowly or jog in place – 2 minutes
Let your breathing slow down. - Forward Bend – 30 seconds
Stretch your hamstrings and back. - Quadriceps stretch – 30 seconds per leg
Standing, pull your ankle toward your buttock. - Cat-Cow Stretch – 1 minute
Get on your hands and knees. Mobilize your spine. - Breathing Exercise – 2 minutes
Breathe in deeply through your nose (4 sec), then exhale slowly through your mouth (6–8 sec).
Tip from Spallys trainers:
Don’t skip your warm-up, even if you’re just coming in for a “quick” workout. Both your performance and your body will thank you for it.
